The French term odalisque derives from the Turkish-Ottoman word odalik, a female slave owned by a Muslim male as his legal concubine. The odalisque became a favorite theme of European artists in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as a symbol, in the European view, of Muslim sensuality.

So much did he like the stories his wife was telling him that he didn't care much for the invitation Sultan Piroro had send him. "A bondage party? Again?" And as he had no intention of binding and gagging his wife, and deprive himself of her stories, he sent two of his harem slaves instead.

Yes, but the image overall is quite striking, and very worthy of praise. The silhouette of the Islamic-style building in the background (Hagia Sophia?) alone against the blue darkening sky is very enticing, and the costumes and balance of the two figures is enjoyable, especially given their coloration. I like it. A lot.
